Wyoming Faces UNI on Friday in NCAA Second Round in Seattle

(Laramie, Wyo.) – A No. 12 seed has upset a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Championships in 13 of the last 14 seasons. This year’s upset will be the goal of the 12th-seeded University of Wyoming men’s basketball team when the Cowboys face fifth-seeded Northern Iowa in the tournament’s second round on Friday at 11:40 a.m. MT in KeyArena in Seattle. The Pokes (25-9) are receiving votes in both national polls after earning the Mountain West’s automatic bid with upsets of Boise State and San Diego State, while the Panthers (30-3) are No. 11 in the AP poll and No. 9 in the coaches after capturing the Missouri Valley’s automatic bid with a come-from-behind win over Illinois State. Wyoming fans are encouraged to wear their gameday gold to the game.

75 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop on I-80 near Evanston

(Evanston, Wyo.) – A traffic stop on March 17th around 7:55 p.m. near mile post 38 on Interstate 80 eastbound resulted in the discovery of over 75 pounds of marijuana. A Wyoming State Trooper was traveling east on I-80 when he observed an eastbound passenger car approaching the marked patrol vehicle from behind at a high rate of speed. The trooper stopped the white Ford Fusion for speeding 87 mph in a 75 mph zone three miles further down the road.

Nation’s First Greater Sage-Grouse Conservation Bank includes part of SE Fremont County

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – Senior Department of the Interior and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials joined Wyoming Governor Matt Mead today in announcing the launch of the nation’s first conservation bank for greater sage-grouse. The bank will manage a vast expanse of central Wyoming for sage-grouse, mule deer and other wildlife, allowing energy development and other economic activities to proceed on lands elsewhere in the state.
