    Riverton man found with Fentanyl; faces enhanced penalty felony charge

    All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    (Riverton, WY) – Fremont County man Christopher Scott faces an enhanced penalty possession of Fentanyl felony charge, as well as two misdemeanor charges for driving or having control of a vehicle while under the influence (DWUI), and interference with a peace officer, for a reported incident occurring on March 20th.

    The possession of a controlled substance (Fentanyl) charge was enhanced to a felony due to previous controlled substance possession charges from July 7th and September 1st of 2021.

    Scott faces these charges after law enforcement reportedly found him passed out in a vehicle, and later discovered drugs and paraphernalia during a search of the vehicle.

    Scott’s Circuit Court preliminary hearing has been set for March 30th.

    On March 20th, Riverton Police Department (RPD) officers were dispatched for reports of “an intoxicated male passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.”

    Upon making contact with the individual, who initially provided a false name to officers, a field sobriety test was administered.

    Scott was then determined to be intoxicated, and placed under arrest for DWUI.

    During various stages of search, law enforcement discovered paraphernalia consistent with heroin use, and pills that later tested presumptive positive for Fentanyl.

    Scott’s prior criminal history was later reviewed, which revealed two prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance.

    Scott’s preliminary hearing is set for March 30th.

    The maximum penalty for an enhanced penalty possession of controlled substance felony charge is a $5,000 fine and five years imprisonment.

    The maximum penalty for a DWUI misdemeanor charge is a $750 fine and six months imprisonment.

    The maximum penalty for an interference with a peace officer misdemeanor charge is a $1,000 fine and one year imprisonment.
