    K-9’s ‘free air sniff’ nabs over 300 lbs of marijuana

    (Laramie, WY) – According to reports from Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 officer Arie had quite the busy month in March.

    On March 10, 2021, Troopers with the Wyoming Highway Patrol requested assistance with a vehicle they stopped at a truck stop. A “free air sniff” was conducted by K-9 officer Arie of the vehicle in question.

    Arie alerted responding officers of the presence of illegal substances, and the search revealed 296.6 lbs of suspected marijuana, concealed with heat sealed plastic packaging and odor resistant bags.

    Days prior, on March 7, 2021, Wyoming Highway Patrol had also requested the assistance of a K9 unit on a traffic stop. A “free air sniff” was conducted by Arie of a vehicle contacted at the service pump of a different truck stop.

    This time, 24.1 lbs of suspected marijuana and 7 grams of suspected ecstasy and Xanax pills were discovered by Arie.
