    Riverton girls rally, fall short on Day 2 of Flaming Gorge Tournament

    (Green River, WY) – The road for the Riverton girls varsity basketball team on day two of the Flaming Gorge Tournament in Green River didn’t get any easier, and the Lady Wolverines fell 50-38 to 3A’s perennial state tournament qualifiers; the Lyman High School Lady Eagles.

    An opening three-point shot from Riverton leading scorer Paizley Jackson represented the Lady Wolverines only scoring in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, and would provide Riverton’s only lead of the game (3-2). The remainder of the opening frame was controlled by the Lady Eagles, and Lyman led 14-4 at the end of the first quarter.

    RHS was able to cut their deficit to single digits twice in the first half on the way to trailing 23-13 at halftime.

    Lyman outscored Riverton 12-9 in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Wolverines won 4th quarter scoring 16-15, and rallied to within five points before Lyman pulled away in the game’s closing minutes.

    Paizley Jackson led Riverton scoring with 14 points. Senior Hailey Engstrom added 10.

    Lyman was led in scoring by Brilee Bradshaw with 11 points, and Payton Anderson with nine.

    Riverton Head Coach Mike Bozner rejoined the team Friday afternoon after missing Thursday’s tournament game in Rock Springs for health reasons.

    3A’s Lyman Lady Eagles improve to 3-3. Lyman has appeared in nine consecutive state girls basketball tournaments.

    The Lady Wolverines are still in search of a second win on the young season, falling to 1-5 overall.
