A series to share #smiles across our community through the achievements of our local youth, brought to you by Rendezvous Dental.

Lander Middle School’s MathCounts team came in 1st place at the State Competition held at the University of Wyoming on March 7th.

“From what it appears this is the first time in history for Lander to be state champions,” shared LMS MathCounts Coach Ely Sixbey. “Once again our mathletes made us super proud!”

LMS MathCounts team member Felicity Olsson has qualified to go to nationals in Orlando, Florida. The team almost had a second member qualify for nationals, “Emily Anderson missed a place on the national’s team by one question,” Ely explained. “We just about had two national members to represent The state of Wyoming. This is something to be very proud of especially when competing against other big 4A teams like Gillette, Laramie, and Cheyenne. It is certainly an honor to have an opportunity to represent Wyoming’s best of the best at nationals.”

Rules only allow one coach to lead at the National Competition, accompanying Felicity will be the LMS Assistant Coach and Felicity’s dad Scott Olsson. “He and his daughter who made nationals should have this memory together,” Ely shared. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime, and to be able to share it with his daughter couldn’t make me any happier.”
