(Riverton, WY) – Ahead of their August 24th grand opening, the Boys & Girls Club of Riverton opened its doors to the community last night where they served up ice cream, shared about club offerings and toured the space.
Located inside Rendezvous Elementary, the BGCR will host after-school programming for students in grades kindergarten through 5th. Programs include Power Hour, Be Somebody: Cowboy Ethics, S.M.A.R.T. Moves and many others.
Speakers for the evening included ‘R’ Recreation Director Mary Axthelm, Riverton Mayor Richard Gard, Fremont County School District #25 Board Vice-Chair Lynette Jeffres, community member Cody Beers, Boys & Girls Club of Central Wyoming Vice President of Operations and interim Riverton Club Director Jessica Baxter, and Boys & Girls Club of Central Wyoming CEO Ashley Bright.
Each of them had a role in opening a Riverton club and all shared their excitement to see a club finally open after a few years of work.
“The Boys & Girls Club is a decision we could make wholeheartedly for what is best for the kids of Riverton,” said Jeffres.
In addition to the excitement around the club opening, Dreams in Motion member Cody Beers announced Mary Axthelm and her husband, Mike, will be treated to the Denver Broncos vs. Baltimore Ravens game in October as part of the foundation.
DiM is a “charity focused on promoting the healing stories of individuals and their opportunities to receive once-in-a-lifetime opportunities at sporting events around the country.”
“She is an outstanding human being, she’s done a lot for young people and she’s one of my heroes,” Beers said.
Wrapping up the evening, interim Riverton Club Director Jessica Baxter walked attendees through the club area inside of Rendezvous.
