    An evening of celebration and honor Saturday

    (Riverton, WY) – The second pow wow since the beginning of the pandemic was held Saturday evening in the Fremont Center at the Fremont County Fairgrounds. The first pow wow was a few weeks ago following the loosened restrictions of the stay-at-home order.

    A special honor was also held during the evening for U.S. Marine Corps Private First Class (PFC) Jalen Schamp who is home on leave after graduating earlier this month from the Infantry Training Battalion in Camp Pendelton, California.

    PFC Schamp graduated with the Wyoming Indian High School Class of 2020. Inspired by his great grandfather Starr Weed, Sr. he entered into the U.S. Marine Corps right out of high school. He completed the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot on October 16th in San Diego. Tomorrow, February 15th, he is headed back to his unit in California.

    The evening was full of celebration as Tribal Members came together. Master of Ceremonies William C’Hair summed it up best by saying, “This is our way of life.”

    County 10 was asked during the pow wow to let folks know in this post that everyone is welcome. Health orders are followed – social distancing and masks, temperature checks, and maximum occupancies.
