    University of Wyoming football recruit shot and killed in Dallas area Sunday

    (Dallas, TX) – A 17-year-old University of Wyoming football recruit was shot and killed at a Dallas, Texas-area hotel early Sunday according to the Dallas Morning News.

    Tony Evans Jr. and another occupant of the hotel room were struck by gunfire around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital where Evans was pronounced dead and the other victim is reported to be in stable condition.

    Evans was raised in Lancaster, Texas where he excelled as a high school athlete. The wide receiver was set to graduate high school this spring and enroll at the University of Wyoming in the fall of 2021.

    The University of Wyoming released the following statement Sunday afternoon;

    “The University of Wyoming football program was saddened to receive the tragic news Sunday that 2021 football recruit Tony Evans Jr. of Lancaster, Texas was shot and killed early Sunday morning at a hotel in Dallas, Texas. The fatal shooting was confirmed by police.

    “Our hearts are with the Evans family as they go through this incredibly difficult time,” said University of Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl. “We are so sad to hear of Tony’s passing. We have been in contact with Tony’s family and are here to support them in any way we can.”
