The Met Opera returns to the Lander Library

Though the Met Opera has officially canceled their season this year, you can still catch pre-recorded performances at the Lander Library this fall and winter. Enjoy the opera in our beautiful Carnegie room on the big screen. The season begins on Friday, October 9th at 5:30 pm with The Marriage of Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). All are welcome and donations to support the program are appreciated. The Met Opera is brought to our community through a partnership with the Lander Met Opera group, the Community Concert Association, and the Lander Library. Face coverings are required at this event.

The Met: “The Marriage of Figaro” (Review from the New Yorker)

Richard Eyre’s new staging of “The Marriage of Figaro” would seem to be the kind of production—accessible and entertaining, but smart and cunning, too—that Peter Gelb has been praying for these last eight years: it is one of the most delightful things the company has done in the last quarter-century. Peter Mattei and Isabel Leonard, in the roles of the Count and his nemesis Cherubino, have never failed to deliver as Metropolitan Mozarteans, and they both notch winning renditions here, as do Marlis Petersen, a wise and confident Susanna, and Ildar Abdrazakov, a deft and potent Figaro. Amanda Majeski, Susanne Mentzer, John Del Carlo, and Ying Fang (a charming Barbarina) also give fine performances; James Levine, who conducted a somewhat wobbly “Così Fan Tutte” last season, is back to his usual gold standard, and the orchestra sounds great.  –The New Yorker
