(Lander, WY) – Lander Middle School (LMS) had a strong showing at the recent Math Counts competition at the Lander Community Center on Wednesday, November 17th.
LMS ended up taking first place in the team category, with Powell Middle School finishing second, and Green River Middle School in third.

Lander students also took the top two spots in the individual category as well, with Henry Wendt earning first place, Katie Anderson placing second, and Powell’s Katarina Reitz finishing in third.

Six schools competed at the event according to Ely Sixbey, one of the competition organizers and math teachers at LMS.
“This event was a joint effort by a lot of people,” Sixbey stated. “Special thanks to the FCSD #1 School Board for making arrangements with the city for the use of the Community Center, as well as a number of volunteers and the LMS Coach Dr. Scott Olsson.”
Olsson, a college math professor for the Wyoming Catholic College who coaches the LMS Math Counts team, does so as part of an enrichment program offered at LMS, according to Sixbey.
Congratulations to Lander Middle School and all of the competitors on a job well done.
