    Sand Creek Fire grows to nearly 750 acres

    (Lander, WY) – Dry and windy weather conditions contributed to active fire behavior for the Sand Creek Fire in the Wind River Range yesterday, September 10th.

    Imagery from a multi-mission (MMA) aircraft flight over the fire indicates the fire activity increased the size to 749 acres, according to an update from the office of the Shoshone National Forest on September 11th at 4:17 pm. It was previously ~150 acres.

    Additional resources have been ordered and the Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 3 will assume command of the fire tonight.

    The road to Moccasin Lake and Dickinson Park has been closed as of today, September 11th, due to the fire activity.

    The fire is located west of Lander in the Sand Creek drainage on the Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest.
