Local Poetry Out Loud State Champion celebrated Monday

(Riverton, WY)Poetry Out Loud (POL) State Champion Bailee Vargas was celebrated Monday afternoon at Foundations for Nations in Riverton with friends, family, and Amara Fehring from the Wyoming Arts Council in attendance.

During the event, Bailee recited a poem that can be heard in the video below.

Bailee shared became interested in poetry when she was in middle school, noting “I already had a love for literature, so it did not take long for me to find poetry.”

She is an aspiring author and has plans to attend Charis Bible College after graduating.

This is her third year competing in POL and she shared the following advice to participants:

“Put your heart into each and every poem you recite. Choose poems that mean something to you. Poems that bring a tear to your eye. Poems that cause your pulse to quicken with excitement. Poems that make you think long and hard about what matters.

“And have fun! Never forget that you are amazing, and that you are doing something incredible!”
