Class 2-A West girls tournament preview

(Fremont County, WY) – The Wyoming Indian Lady Chiefs have a single loss against Class 2-A competition this season, a 48-44 decision at Northwest 2-A Champion Rocky Mountain back in January. The Lady Grizzlies have an unblemished mark against the 2-A girls from the western half of Wyoming.

After the Lady Chiefs and Lady Grizz, it’s anyone’s ballgame to get the two remaining spots for the state tournament in Casper in two weeks.

Wind River made it interesting, with the Lady Cougars edging St. Stephen’s by a single point for their first win of the season on Friday. The win lifted Wind River into a tie with St. Stephen’s for third but the tiebreaker goes to the Eagles who defeated Greybull 53-40 earlier in the year, while the Lady Cougars fell twice to the Lady Buffs.

Riverside takes the second seed out of the north and opens with St. Stephen’s.

Rocky Mountain lines up with Wind River for the second time this season. The Lady Grizz won via the 40-point mercy rule back in an early-season game in December.

The final contest pits the Lady Blue of Shoshoni against the Lady Punchers from Big Piney.  In their only meeting during the regular season, Big Piney won 53-46 in overtime in Sublette County.

The top four teams head on to the state tournament when the smoke clears Saturday afternoon at Wolverine Gym in Riverton.
