New local basketball team to hit the courts this spring

(Riverton, WY) – A new basketball team has formed, the Wyoming Premier Wolverines. They are an AAU team for local high school players under head coach Eric Smith.

This first year, the team will play tournaments mainly in and around Denver. Their first tournament begins May 24, with practices beginning at the end of April or the first of May.

“I have two two kids that play for Riverton High School, and their teammates wanted to start a team,” Smith said about the origins. “They wanted to start a team so they could, they could get that chemistry for next year. So they want to play throughout the summer and I’ve always wanted to coach.”

Smith hopes to add more ages, but for right now it’s a 17U team meant for high school players. They have a full roster going into the season, with six tournaments lined up.

He hopes to get eyes on Wyoming for basketball.

You can follow the team on their website. They also have a GoFundMe set up to help with tournament fees, jerseys and lodging for the players.
