(Riverton, WY) Veterans Day is a day for paying special tribute to all U.S. veterans across the nation, and Riverton has several events where the community can come together to show their appreciation and support, including the annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast, Veterans Day Parade, a special dinner, and a concert at CWC.
American Legion Post #19 Adjutant Commander Nancy Eustice said that “there are many things that the veterans do for the community…and in turn, a lot the community could do to help our veterans”, including donations towards or helping with the Avenue of Flags, rallying volunteers for Veterans Clean Up Days at the I.O.O.F. cemetery on Riverview Road, the upkeep, maintenance, care of Veterans Memorial Park behind Riverton City Hall, and several other projects.
“Many of our veterans are too old now to help with the things that they were able to do before,” Eustice said. “So we rely a lot on the community to step up in the way of donations and volunteers so we can continue the services and programs that we provide for them.”
Eustice also mentioned opportunities for youth to get involved, including participation at Boys State and entering the annual American Legion Oratorical Contest, “Donations from businesses and the community help make these programs possible,” she said.
Veterans Day is on Saturday, November 11. Events and activities planned in Riverton are listed below. Information and updates can be found on the American Legion Post #19 Facebook page or on GoRiverton.com.
