(Fremont County, WY) – A loaded cattle trailer crashed North of Riverton on Delfelder Road late Monday afternoon.
At the time, scanner traffic only indicated the above information, and that the cattle pod was being unloaded.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) posted the following News Alert addressing the incident on their Facebook page late Monday evening:
“The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an overturned cattle truck on Delfelder road this afternoon. Our deputies arrived and found a loaded cattle truck on its side. Fortunately the driver was able to get out of the truck safely and will be home with his family tonight.
“Our focus shifted to the cattle who were stuck inside the trailer and a rescue mission was started. Sometimes tragic accidents happen and we were humbled and honored to work alongside so many wonderful people to save the cattle.
“There was a united force of Firemen, local ranchers and landowners, a UPS driver, police officers, Deputies, Animal Control, EMS and I’m sure I missed a few. With so many people working together they were able to saw their way into the trailer and get to the trapped cattle.
“Unfortunately there were a few cows that were killed in the accident. Many of the cows were saved and walked out of the wreckage with minimal assistance. These cattle were moved to a holding facility and are being evaluated.
“We want to thank everyone who helped during this incident. Lives were saved because of so many who came together to help today. We are blessed to live and work in a community that comes together at a moments notice to help one another.”
