    Strong storms may continue through Wednesday evening

    Much of Fremont County saw strong rain and even some hail Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service office in Riverton has extened their significant weather warning throughout the evening.

     

    …SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHEASTERN FREMONT COUNTY UNTIL 500 PM MDT… AT 420 PM MDT, DOPPLER RADAR WAS TRACKING A STRONG THUNDERSTORM 10 MILES NORTHEAST OF SAND DRAW, OR 19 MILES SOUTHEAST OF RIVERTON, MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 30 MPH. HALF INCH HAIL AND WINDS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM. THIS STORM WILL REMAIN OVER MAINLY RURAL AREAS OF SOUTHEASTERN FREMONT COUNTY, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS… BEAVER CREEK GASOLINE PLANT, RIVERTON LANDFILL AND BEAVER CREEK GAS PLANT DEVON ENERGY CORPORATION POWER PLANT. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IS ALSO OCCURRING WITH THIS STORM, AND MAY LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLOODING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS. FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING IS OCCURRING WITH THIS STORM. LIGHTNING CAN STRIKE 10 MILES AWAY FROM A THUNDERSTORM. SEEK A SAFE SHELTER INSIDE A BUILDING OR VEHICLE.

    Thursday and Friday will see a 20% chance of afternoon thundershowers for the Riverton/Lander area.
