Local winners of the 2020 American Dream Essay Contest (ADEC) through the Boys and Girls Club of Dubois (BGCD) were announced this week. Gage Gleim’s essay came in 1st and advanced to the statewide competition. Along with advancing to state, he also won $300. Aidan Slider’s essay came in 2nd and he won $200. Sienna Seabolt’s essay came in 3rd and she won $100.

The essays are between 300 and 2,000 words long and must be based on one of the 10 Cowboy Ethics Values as described in Jim Owen’s Cowboy Ethics book. Students can also create their own Cowboy Ethics Value if they wish, according to the contest rules. Both Gage and Aidan selected “Live Each Day with Courage” as their Cowboy Ethic, and Sienna selected “Remember That Some Things Aren’t For Sale,” Fremont County School District #2 shared.

Winners of the statewide contest will be announced at an awards luncheon in Casper on April 19th. The 1st place winner in the state competition will receive $5,000.

The Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe shared they did not have any students participate in the essay contest.
