As a part of its Bunks Across America 2021 National Build Day, the SHP group and Lander Kiwanis had 35 volunteers on site to help build 38 beds for Lander area children, some of whom have never slept on a bed of their own. They did this all in about 3 hours total.

“We delivered a bed to kid one time who had never even had so much as a pillow of his own,” stated the SHP Worland chapter President Dan Frederick. “A bed is a safe haven for these kids. It’s more than just a bed, it’s chance.”

A nationwide effort, the SHP is made possible through volunteers and donors, including Lowe’s Home Improvement, which has donated over $2 million in lumber for beds across the country.

The first Wyoming chapter of SHP began in Cheyenne, with Worland soon after, and they currently are making connections across the state for more bed building events. The next event will be in Worland on July 17th, with Riverton in August, and Cody in September, dates to be determined.

In addition to the bed structures, the SHP group also provides twin sized mattresses (the prices of which have double/tripled according to Frederick), twin sized sheets and comforters, and pillows.

If you live in the Lander area and would like to donate any twin sized new/unused sheets, comforters, or pillows (items must be new/unused for legal and heath reasons), please stop by the E. Free Church in Lander, located at 1215 US-287. There will be a donation box in the lobby.

If your child is in need of a bed, or you know of a child in need, you can apply through the SHP by clicking here.
