    Fort Washakie structure fire results in 1 death

    (Ft. Washakie, WY) – At 7:34 PM on Monday, July 5th, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a structure fire at the Tigee Village housing in Ft. Washakie, which resulted in 1 fatality.

    At this time, the identity of the victim will not be released, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

    Investigations are currently being conducted from the County Coroner, law enforcement agencies, and the State Fire Marshal.

    According to Dan Oakley, Deputy Chief for the Fremont County Fire Protection District, the Wind River Police Department was first on the scene, where they discovered the fire had started in the kitchen of the residence.

    “The first responding WRPD officers were able to use a fire extinguisher, which helped slow the progression of the fire down,” Oakley stated.

    While investigating the scene and putting out the remaining flames, responders discovered the victim and life-saving attempts were performed.

    According to Oakley, these attempts were unsuccessful, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
