The Shoshoni Police Department has released additional information about the vehicle pursuit that ended north of Riverton Wednesday evening.
On December 30, 2020, at approximately 1655 hours, Officers with the Shoshoni Police Department observed a white Chrysler 200 with Wyoming Registration at milepost 99 on Highway 20/26 traveling westbound into Shoshoni at a rate of speed in excess of 100 mph.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens and continued traveling through Shoshoni westbound at speeds of over 90 mph.
The vehicle continued to travel westbound towards Riverton at speeds in excess of 100 mph along Highway 789. Law Enforcement with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Riverton Police Department responded to assist in the pursuit.
Tire deflation equipment was deployed by assisting law enforcement as the vehicle approached Burma Road, which was successful in deflating at least one tire. The vehicle veered off Highway 789 and entered into a field, causing property damage to fencing.
Responding Officers with the Riverton Police Department and Fremont County Sheriff’s Office continued to observe the vehicle as it attempted to cross the field and re-enter onto Highway 789.
The vehicle became stuck along the fence line at which point the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot westbound across the field. The passenger, a male juvenile, was quickly apprehended without incident near the vehicle. The male juvenile driver was apprehended after a short foot pursuit across the field without further incident. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen out of Colorado on December 16, 2020.
Local criminal charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and will be submitted to the Fremont County Attorney’s Office for formal filing.
