A 56-year-old woman found dead in the Shoshone River has been identified.
Susan C. Hartley of Chichester, New Hampshire was found deceased Wednesday afternoon about one half-mile downstream from the Pahaska Teepee Resort.
Hartley was a seasonal employee at the resort and had been spending the summer west of Cody, near Yellowstone National Park.
Employees reported Hartley missing when she didn’t report to work Wednesday morning. She had gone hiking Tuesday afternoon near the river. Cody-area search and rescue crews deployed ground search units and a canine team according to the Cody Enterprise.
The exact cause of death is pending an autopsy, however, Park County Coroner Tim Power preliminarily ruled that Hartley had drowned.
