Wolverine flags flown Tuesday in memorial for longtime educator and coach

Longtime Riverton High School educator and coach Ron Porter passed away early Tuesday, August 25th after a battle with cancer.

Porter taught English for 35 years and had been active in a number of youth athletics including coaching basketball and baseball. Ron graduated from Riverton High School in 1971.

Many Riverton-area businesses and residents have decided to fly their RHS Wolverine flags today in honor of Mr. Porter.

Earlier this year, the Facebook page Fight Like A Wolverine was created to help friends, students, and the community keep up with Ron’s fight.

Students, staff and community members supported his fight by wearing “Porter Strong” t-shirts.

Ron was recognized earlier this August by Wyoming’s baseball community, and was given the chance to throw out the first pitch at the State Legion Baseball Tournament in Powell.

Last weekend, Ron was awarded a 30 year coaching service award from many of the Riverton High School staff.
