(Lander, WY) – The Lander Middle School (LMS) 8th grade girls basketball team won the Big Horn Basin conference championship for the second year in a row this past weekend.

This group of Sabers has only lost one game in their careers at LMS, with an overall record of 29-1, the only loss coming in the first game of the year to Cody.

This year they went into the conference tournament ranked 2nd (due to their loss to Cody), where they beat Worland in the first game of the tourney 47-20.

The girls then beat Thermopolis in the semifinals 51-24 to earn a rematch with Cody in the finals, where they beat them in the championship game 34-31.

The Sabers finished the year with an overall record of 15-1.

“They are one of the hardest working groups of girls that I have ever coached, stated head coach Steve Simpson.

“They leave everything on the court everytime they play. They have all of the components to be successful at the high school as a group. A strong post presence, great guard play and a willingness to work on the defensive end of the floor. Above all they are great kids, which may be the most important attribute that they possess.”

    Congratulations ladies!
