    Riverton High School speech, debate team takes 1st place at Rock Springs competition

    (Riverton, WY) – This past weekend the Riverton High School Speech and Debate team walked away with a 1st place 3A trophy after competing for two days in Rock Springs, with several students helping earn points for the team by placing in the tournament.

    Maile Williams advanced to Semis in Varsity Poetic Interpretation, Cody Heard advanced to Semifinals in Novice Drama and, along with Afton Powell, took sixth place in Duo Interpretation.

    Kylie Downey went to semifinals for Novice Dramatic Interpretation and claimed third place with Ashtin Griffin in Novice Duo Interpretation.

    Maya McLaughlin and Noah Smith worked to get fifth in Varsity for Duo Interpretation, first for Novice Duo Interpretation, and Noah added third place for Dramatic Interpretation.

    Martina Guiliani was fifth in Novice Duo Interpretation with Emma Kreitzer, and Shannon Kreitzer placed second in Varsity Drama, and fifth in Varsity Humor.

    Kaia Tippets placed fourth in Dramatic Interpretation, fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking, and advanced to semifinals in Impromptu Speaking.

    Carly Thornton took first in varsity poetry, second in humor, and advanced to semifinals in impromptu.

    MJ Nguyen and partner Riley Walker placed 1st in Novice Cross Examination debate with Riley taking Top Speaker in Novice CX Debate.

    Ayana Mejorado and TJ Hancock advanced to Supers in Novice Congressional Debate.

    The team looks forward to competing in Green River, December 3rd and 4th.
