Riverton accepting ideas for City Park improvements

Local residents are coming up with more ideas to improve Riverton City Park.

The Central Wyoming Skateboarding Association has expressed interest in building a basketball court there, for example, as well as a flat skating area for beginners, Mayor Richard Gard said.

The organization has some “big ideas” about off-street parking too – an amenity that Gard said “would be wonderful” at City Park.

Matt Wright with CWRA plans to make a presentation about the idea during a council work session Tuesday, April 19, Gard said.

Councilwoman Karla Borders said the parks committee has spoken in the past about the benefits a basketball court would bring to City Park.

“We could have three-on-three tournaments,” she said.

Councilwoman Kristy Salisbury said local pickleball enthusiasts may be interested in getting involved as well, and Gard suggested outlining space for a cornhole court.

“We want the best and highest use of City Park,” Gard said. “But the real difficult part is the raising of the money. … We need to get interested in what those options are and see what we can do, (because) it always comes down to what we can afford.”

He encouraged people with ideas for City Park to contact him or city administrator Tony Tolstedt. The number for City Hall is 856-2227.
