    Pedestrian struck and killed on I-80 near Rock Springs Tuesday

    On March 12, 2019, a fatal crash occurred at milepost 133 on Interstate 80 east of Rock Springs, Wyoming.  Around 5:37 a.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

    A 2006 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80.  The driver of the Chevrolet was unable to avoid a pedestrian standing in the eastbound lane of travel.  The Chevrolet collided with the pedestrian before stopping on the shoulder of the roadway.

    The pedestrian has been identified as 30-year-old Mineral Point, Missouri resident Harold Stinson.  Stinson succumbed to injuries at the scene of the crash.

    The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as 50-year-old Rock Springs, Wyoming resident David Mehal.  Mehal was wearing his seatbelt and not injured in the crash.

    Impairment on the part of Stinson is being investigated as one of the contributing factors.

    This is the 29th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019 compared to 13 in 2018, 15 in 2017, and 10 in 2016 to date.
