It’s back to school week in Riverton, and the Riverton Police Department is cracking down on school zone violations.

You may have noticed an increased law enforcement presence near schools, even compared to previous years. RPD Captain Todd Byerly explained, ” we have increased not only our presence in the school zones but increased the enforcement as well.  Officers and School Resource Officers have been working collaboratively during the course of the last few weeks to remind citizens of the school zone speed reductions.”

Motorists may also have noticed the “speed trailer” or electronic speed sign placed in some of the school zones, “the speed trailer has been moved around town during the summer to help reduce traffic speeds.  We have moved the speed trailer into the school zones to help reduce speeds and assist motorist in awareness” said Byerly.

RPD also wants to emphasize that protecting our communities children is a top priority, and motorists are asked to use caution not only in school zones, but all across town with increased foot traffic. “We do want to remind motorist that school zones are not our only area of concern” Byerly told County 10. “Children may be present in any area of town walking to and from school.  Please remember that they are children and may be present in areas that we as adults least expect them, so please drive with care in ALL areas of town.”
