CWC basketball plays tonight at Western Wyoming College; Sophomore night is Saturday

CWC basketball has two games left in the regular season.

The men’s team sits fourth at the moment and in position to host a first round play-in game.  They could move up to tie for third with two wins. They could get sole possession of third with two wins and two Western Wyoming losses.

The women are sitting 6th right now but do not have the possibility of moving up. After Western knocked off Eastern Saturday, the teams are essentially playing for that sixth seed Wednesday night.  A win and CWC is 6th. A loss means a tie breaking scenario with Western for the #6 seed and a trip to the #3 seed for the regional play-in game.

Sophomore night is Saturday, February 23rd.  CWC hosts LCCC in the final regular season game of the year.  Games are at 2 and 4. CWC has only one sophomore on the men’s team, but, others have already signed at schools to play on.  Devin Rottweiler has signed with Emporia State. Former CWC men’s assistant Craig Doty is their head coach.

The women’s team will honor sophomores Paulani Tarawa, Rylee Burmester, Shelby Branstetter, Brayle Crosman, Megan Krahenbuhl, and Alzae Roberts.

Tarawa is ten points shy of the modern-day scoring title and is currently injured.  Burmester, CWC’s only two-sport athlete this year, moved into the #4 spot on modern-day rebounding and has made the most free throws of any women’s player since bringing the sport back to CWC.  She is 11 rebounds from tying #3 on the list, Elise Keller.
