Riverton standoff ends Wednesday night with suspect injured


3:45 p.m. update: Riverton Police Chief Eric Murphy confirmed a suspect shot at law enforcement officers. The suspect still remains barricaded inside a house. No officers have been injured. Some neighborhood houses are being evacuated. 

The Riverton Police Department has confirmed there is an evolving situation with an active shooter in the area of Aspen Drive and E Sunset.

RPD is asking everyone to avoid the area and to limit calls to the department at this time.

Event timeline:

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15: Law enforcement dispatched to residence on Aspen Drive, blocks off surrounding streets to traffic.

Approximately 2:15 p.m.  Series of shots fired confirmed by RPD by the suspect direct at law enforcement officers

3:15 p.m. – Law enforcement begin evacuating neighboring homes.

5:00 p.m. – Tactical teams continue to assemble near the residence.
