Wednesday afternoon the Riverton Police Department and Fremont County Sheriff’s office were dispatched to a residence on Aspen Drive. The circumstances around the initial call to police are unconfirmed at this time.
Upon arriving, officers built a perimeter around the house and surrounding streets, many with weapons drawn. Here’s the timeline of events so far;
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15: Law enforcement dispatched to residence on Aspen Drive, blocks off surrounding streets to traffic.
Approximately 2:15 p.m. Series of shots fired. RPD confirms suspect was shooting at law enforcement.
3:15 p.m. – Law enforcement begin evacuating neighboring homes.
5:00 p.m. – Tactical teams continue to assemble near the residence.
5:45 p.m. – Law enforcement and SWAT teams enter the residence.
5:53 p.m. – Suspect taken to SageWest Riverton with life threatening injuries.
RPD Chief Eric Murphy confirmed to County 10 that no law enforcement officers were injured in the gunfire exchange.
The Riverton Police Department are asking residents to avoid the area entirely and to limit calls to the department to “only emergency calls” at this time.
