BLM Lander seeks input on Green Mountain vegetation management plan

The Bureau of Land Management Lander Field Office is seeking input as it prepares a vegetation management plan for the Green Mountain area, southeast of Jeffrey City. The plan will support the BLM priority of shared conservation stewardship for the benefit of current and future generations.

The landscape-level project, which also includes portions of Crooks and Whiskey mountains, is an effort to enhance wildlife habitat conditions, improve forest and rangeland health, and reduce fuel hazards. If implemented, work will begin in 2021 and continue for several years, in coordination with state and other federal agencies, as well as private landowners in the area.

“There is a lot of work we can do in the Green Mountain area to ensure it is a healthy landscape well into the future,” said BLM Fuels Specialist Tim Kramer. “We anticipate that by using a full suite of vegetation management tools, including mechanical treatments, prescribed fire and herbicide applications for weeds, we can benefit and protect all resource values for the area. Looking at the entire area in one document just makes sense.”
