Amillia Faith Hood, better known around Fremont County as “Mighty Millie” proudly rang the bell at Children’s Hospital in Denver, signaling that her chemotherapy treatments are completed.
In the summer of 2019, the 2-year-old was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Millie turned 3 last fall.
A handful of community events in Riverton were held to help Millie and her family financially, including paint parties, and a donation lunch hosted by Profiles Hair Salon.
Amillia’s mom, Jasmine, filled County 10 in on the latest this week, “overall she is doing pretty good, she received her last chemo yesterday (Monday) and will go through a low point where her blood count will be low and she’ll just feel a little crummy with less energy.” That’s pretty uncommon for Millie, continued Jasmine, “she’s always so energetic and happy. She loves playing nurse with all of the nurses at Children’s Hospital and racing everyone (at the hospital.)
Although her chemotherapy is done, she’ll follow up with several labs, an MRI, and CT scans.
“We’ve honestly lost count of how many trips we had to make to Denver,” Jasmine told us. “If I had to guess I’d say over 40 the past 8 months, not including the 6 life flight trips.”
In total, Millie had 14 cycles of chemo and 30 days of radiation.
Now, the Hood family is looking to the future. “When Amillia’s immune system is completely recovered, I’d like to plan a thank you / cancer-free celebration that will be open to the community.”
