Local fire departments had a busy week here in Fremont County. County 10 chatted with Riverton Fire Department Chief Henri DeClercq about the Riverview Road hay fire.
DeClercq shared the fire is contained but still burning. As of Wednesday evening around 7:00 pm the Riverton Fire Department (RFD) and Fremont County Fire District (FCFD) are no longer actively working on it. The property owners have taken over managing it.
DeClercq explained to the best of his knowledge the fire was accidental. He said, “There is not a way to confirm the cause due to the massive amounts of hay.” The fire started around 4:00 am on Wednesday and fire crews worked on it for about fifteen hours.
He also shared gratitude for Fremont County Fire Districts’ assistance with this fire.
