Just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the Riverton Police Department responded to a call from a house in the 1100 block of East Main Street.
Scanner traffic indicated that a woman had discovered two people inside the house unresponsive. Traffic also indicated that the woman reported the house may have been broken into, but that has not been confirmed.
RPD officers on the scene found a male and female deceased inside of the house, each with gunshot wounds, according to scanner reports.
Riverton Police Captain Todd Byerly issued the following statement about the deaths,
On Saturday, January, 2019 at approximately 12:34 p.m. Officers of the Riverton Police Department responded to the 1100 block of E. Main for a report of two unresponsive subjects. Upon further investigation, it appears that both a male and female subject, both in their early 30’s sustained injuries that resulted in their deaths. This incident is being investigated as a double homicide.
RPD also posted the following message to their Facebook page, asking for the public’s help in identifying any potential suspects.
If you have any surveillance video or photos pointed at the streets in the area surrounding the 1100 block of East Main, for the evening and night of January 4, and you are willing to let us have a copy please call Andrea at 307-857-7602. The investigation is active but indicates that there is not a danger to the public. Thank you for your concern and assistance.
An investigation from RPD and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation was conducted inside of the house and around the neighborhood Saturday throughout the evening. A 2-block perimeter of East Main, between 10th Street and 12th Street, was closed to traffic. The perimeter has been removed as of Sunday morning.
DCI equipment was used on the scene at the investigation, including equipment that made a 3D scan and model of the house’s interior.
Shortly before the homicide call, RPD responded to a Riverton motel on N. Federal Boulevard after receiving a call about a male subject who had hung himself in one of the rooms. RPD did not comment when asked if these two calls were related in any way.
