Members of the Wind River Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (WRCSAR) honored two outstanding peace officers at the end of December with the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution’s Law Enforcement Commendation medal.
WRCSAR presented them to Trooper Anthony Badura of the Wyoming State Troopers, Division I, and Detective Sergeant Eric Smits of the Riverton Police Department. A candidate from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department was also requested, but had not been selected at that time.
“The NSSAR Law Enforcement Award recognizes exceptional service or accomplishment in the field of law enforcement,” shared President of the WRSCAR Karl Falken. “Eligibility is not limited to peace officers but extends to the entire range of persons who make and enforce the law to include but not limited to peace officers, attorneys, judges, prosecutors and legislators who have performed an exceptional act or service beyond that normally expected.”

Below are the recommendations shared by WRCSAR from the supervisors of Trooper Badura and Detective Smits:
“Lt Travis Hauser described Trooper Badura as a ‘very rounded trooper,’ a fourteen year veteran of high integrity who is punctual, reliable and dedicated to his work. Beyond his regular duties, he spends many hours off duty helping the patrol with background investigations on prospective WYHP applicants. Trooper Badura is also a child safety seat technician, a field training officer and works with local radio stations keep the motoring public informed on relevant topics.”
“According to RPD Chief Eric Murphy, Eric Smits oversees the Detective Division which includes himself, four other detectives, a crime scene processor and three women in the Victim/Witness unit. Detective Sergeant Smits fairly and consistently assigns cases and has a clearance rate of the highest caliber. He displays empathy when dealing with victims and remains in regular contact with the victims and their families during their crisis.”
