    Description

    Position Summary
    The Institutional Researcher is responsible for collecting and analyzing data, preparing and reviewing internal, local, state and federal reports in an accurate, timely manner using the college’s administrative software and other resources.

    Examples of Duties

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Prepare required internal, local, state, and federal reports in a timely, accurate manner using data from the college administrative software, Colleague, and other resources.
    2. Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by internal and external stakeholders.
    3. Plan, design, and manage the collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of historical, current and comparative data to provide reports, dashboards, analyses and recommendations for planning and decision-making purposes.
    4. Design and distribute surveys; collect and organize data for statistical analysis.
    5. Assist in improving the quality, consistency, and usefulness of college data.
    6. Provide formal training and informal support to others regarding the planning, analyzing and reporting processes to be used in research.
    7. Attend state-wide Data Governance and Institutional Research Council (DGIRC) meetings and work collaboratively with the Wyoming Community College Commission staff and other state IR offices to improve data consistency and reduce duplication of effort.
    8. Perform periodic review of written procedures and updates as necessary to maintain a current, complete reference manual, including maintaining an institutional research calendar to ensure that cyclical project timelines are met.
    9. Participate in professional development activities, in campus meetings, and serve on committees to ensure communication between departments IE/IR issues.
    10. Operate within the framework of the college’s approved policies, procedures and practices.
    11. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

    Typical Qualifications

    Position Specifications Minimum Qualifications
    Education 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, research methodology, a quantitative-intensive social science discipline or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.

    Experience 

    • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or a related industry that includes research/statistics/analytics.

    Equivalency Statement 

    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Desired Qualifications 

    • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, preferably in statistics, research methodology or other quantitative-intensive social science disciplines

    1. Knowledge of or ability to learn and follow CWC policies, procedures and practices.

    3. Well-developed analytical skills.
    4. Skills in utilizing software and programming languages used in statistics and data analysis/visualization, preferably SQL, R, Shiny, Tableau, and/or SAP Web Intelligence.
    5. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Ellucian Colleague.
    6. Effective presentation, communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
    7. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and supervisors.
    8. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in person and via telephone/video conferencing.
    9. Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks concurrently through to completion within established deadlines, sometimes with little notice.
    10. Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems.
    11. Ability to work independently while simultaneously promoting a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both within the college and the community.
    12. High level of personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
    13. Ability to relate with a diverse population in a professional, helpful manner.
    14. Knowledge of the role of the comprehensive community college in a rural environment.

    Level of Supervision

    • This position operates with significant autonomy under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research.

    Equipment Used 

    • Standard office equipment including personal computer, calculator, fax machine, ten-key calculator by touch, phone, scanners, copy machine, and telephone.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Tasks require a variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

    Environmental Conditions

    • Work is performed mainly in an office under limited supervision. Travel, evening and/or weekend work may be required.
    • This position is eligible for permanent telecommuting.
    • This position may be considered for Retention/Recruitment compensation.
