In case you missed it, two Riverton residents spoke during the ‘citizen’s comment’ period at Tuesday’s Riverton City Council meeting.
The first was Jeremy Crews who attended the Wyoming Arts Council yearly summit in Cheyenne earlier in November. At Tuesday’s meeting, he shared information about the impact the arts have in Wyoming from the National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Mary Anne Carter.
Those details are shared below:
- 3% (approx. $1.1 billion) of Wyoming’s Gross Domestic Product is directly from the arts and entertainment sector.
- Approx. 3/4 billion dollars in wages and benefits in a year come from the arts.
- Last year almost 43% of Wyoming adults report attending live theatre or a dance exhibit. Another 26% report attending an art exhbit.
- Counties that are home to performing arts organizations experience population growth 3x higher than rural counties who lack those institutions.

Riverton High School Junior Jazmine Wildcat took the opportunity during the meeting to thank Mayor Gard for proclaiming November as ‘Native American Heritage Month’.
“Even though such a proclamation may seem irrelevant and inconsequential to some, I am here to say that even something that seems so small can make a big impact,” Jazmine said Tuesday night.
