CWC Theatre Review: The Addams Family Musical Comedy a hit on opening night

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Funny. Witty. Entertaining. Three words to describe the toe-tapping, finger-snapping Central Wyoming College Theatre Department’s opening night presentation of The Addams Family, a new musical comedy. The CWC production was well received by a large audience at the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre Thursday night.

The production features an elaborate interchangeable set and impressive make-up and lighting, adding a dark side to the light-hearted comedy. Well done.

The cast from the original cartoons by Charles Addams and the subsequent television show are all there: Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt, Lurch and Boo.  “Thing” also makes a cameo appearance. In addition, the production features the “normal” Beineke family played by Marissa Selvig and Anthony James William Schmeiser.

Gomez, Joseph Thornton, and Morticia, Leslie Larsen, are excellent in the leading roles. The Addams’ daughter Wednesday, played by Abigail Larsen, and her easy to like and exuberant boyfriend Lucas Beineke, played by Jalon Tyndall, struggle to tell the two families of their impending marriage while Gomez has promised to keep the arrangement a secret from his wife.

The combination results in a funny and dramatic play directed by Joey West with an amazing “dead” company of actors and the bewildered parents of Lucas.

Curtain for the show is 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday with 2 p.m. shows Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $12 adults, $10 for youth/seniors.
