Coroner cases down but traffic fatalities and fall deaths are up, Commissioners told Tuesday

(Lander, Wyo.) – “While both suicides and homicides remain low in number,” County Coroner Mark Stratmoen told the county commissioners on Tuesday “traffic fatalities have increased with seven since the beginning of September.” Up until that month, the county had recorded only four traffic deaths.

Stratmoen said the county has recorded four suicides so far this year. “There were 13 last year and 17 the year before that, so with a little over one month left in the year, we’re looking good.”

As far as homicides are concerned, the coroner said there have been two so far in 2018 compared with nine each in 2016 and 2017.

“Accidental deaths from falls have also increased, with seven so far this year compared to four last year,” he said.

In a printed report, Stratmoen said that his total overall numbers remain down, with 121 coroner cases through the end of October, compared to 146 in 2017 (25 less).
