City of Riverton continues curbside recycling program

At the November 5th Riverton City Council meeting, the continuation of curbside recycling pick-up for Riverton residents was up for discussion due to the cost the city is incurring for offering the service. The cost is approximately $100,000 a year. A motion was made at that meeting to allow for public hearing on the matter which happened at the December 3rd meeting.

After deliberation and hearing from ten Riverton residents in favor of continued curbside recycling pick-up, it was decided to continue the service. However, the $5 credit recycling customers receive on their monthly bill will be discontinued.

There was discussion amongst the council members of charging for the service to help offset the cost. Which segwayed into the next agenda item, Resolution No. 1402 – Adjusting rates for the collection and disposal of garbage, rubbish and debris.

The following outline of fees was passed as is last night and is effective for the January-February 2020 billing cycle:
