Cheyenne Woods + Physical Therapy =? MORE OPIOIDS

    Patient Testimonial

Pain is one of the most common reasons people seek health care. Research supports that physical therapy can reduce the need for, and with physician support, potentially stop the use of opioids. Cheyenne Woods reflects on her recent experience with Fremont Therapy Group and the impact physical therapy has had in her life. Cheyenne has suffered with rheumatoid arthritis since she was 11 years old, with mobility and pain a constant struggle. As the disease progressed, Cheyenne’s dependence on medications, including opioids, continued to grow and her mobility continued to decline.

Cheyenne came to Fremont Therapy Group in a wheelchair, unable to walk more than 20-30 feet independently. She had constant pain and this pain level deterred her from nearly any activity. With a referral to physical therapy from her rheumatologist, Cheyenne’s could see that lack of movement was a major contributor to her pain.

Cheyenne’s physical therapist, Justin Willis, PT, DPT, ATC, CMTPT, began her PT treatment in the therapy pool, where the buoyancy and warmth of the water eased her body back into movement. As she became more confident exercising in the water, Justin introduced more gym based physical therapy to work on everyday movement goals so she could get back to basic life function.

With persistence and determination, along with the help of her medical team, Cheyenne has made a significant life change and is now free of opioids! She enjoys better function, mobility and no longer needs assistance to walk. Instead of being wheelchair-bound with limited daily function, Cheyenne now has a new daily routine of walking several miles outdoors and hasn’t been this active since she was 11 years old.
