    Casper resident dies in crash east of Shoshoni Thursday

    (Shoshoni, WY) – A fatal crash occurred near the Fremont/Natrona County line on US 20-26 east of Shoshoni at around 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 20th.

    75-year-old Casper resident Stephen James Stewart was driving eastbound when he entered into the westbound lane colliding head-on with another truck with three occupants, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.

    Stewart was wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the other truck was 32-year-old Greeley, Colorado resident Michael Andrew Marr. He was wearing a seatbelt and was flown by helicopter to the Wyoming Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash.

    The juvenile passengers in the vehicle were both restrained in child seats. One of the young passengers was transported by helicopter to the Wyoming Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. 

    Driver fatigue on the part of Stewart is being investigated as a potential contributing factor, according to WHP.

    This is the 38th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021 compared to 28 in 2020, 64 in 2019, and 36 in 2018 to date.
