#Smiles: Fremont County Teen Creative Writing Contest winners announced Friday

A series to share #smiles across our community through the achievements of our local youth, brought to you by Olsen Orthodontics.

(Fremont County, WY) – Four local students were named the winners and runners-up in two age categories for the 2021 Fremont County Teen Creative Writing Contest.

A total of 13 entries were submitted to the contest for incoming 7th-12th graders around the county. The stories were judged on three things: originality, technical skill, and authenticity.

Winners were announced at the Welcome Reception for Bookmarked: A Fremont County Writer’s Festival held in the Carnegie Room at the Lander Library on Friday, September 10th.

The winner of the 7th-8th grade category was Ella Giesmann for her story “Fire Will Only Give You One Wish,” and the runner-up was Eve-Marie Baxter for her story “The Pearl of Wisdom.” Both read their stories at the Welcome Reception.

The winner of the 9th-12th grade category was Malorie Bender for her story “Day 365,” and the runner-up was Vera Walker for her untitled story. Both were unable to attend the Welcome Reception.

Bookmarked and PALS (Promoting Art in Lander Schools) teamed up to sponsor this contest. Winners received $100, and runners-up received $50.

    Congratulations!
