Shoshoni’s big Main Street demolition project to begin

(Shoshoni, Wyo.) – In preparation for the demolition of the east side of Shoshoni’s downtown Main Street, crews have placed dirt over the sidewalks and gutters to prevent them from being damaged. The dirt was placed on Friday in preparation for the building demolition to begin this week.

The empty buildings there have been abandoned for decades and pose a safety risk. Shoshoni Mayor Scott Peters told County10.com that he hopes the demotion will provide space for new businesses to come to town. Several other demolition projects were recently completed after the town purchased the derelict properties, providing new development opportunities.

The Fremont County Association of Government communities are all lending a hand with equipment to haul the debris away to the Shoshoni landfill, which will  then be closed and sealed. The Fremont County Solid Waste Disposal District will be using their own operator on a county-owned trackhoe to do the demolition and a District front-end loader will scoop up the debris to be hauled away in trucks from the municipalities. The project should take just under a week to complete.
