    Description

    Position Summary
    The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing coaching support to the specific athletic program assigned.

    Examples of Duties

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Serve as an assistant to the Head Coach including providing quality coaching and instruction to students as directed, supporting practice and game preparation, monitoring strength and conditioning activities of student athletes.
    2. Monitor student athlete academic progress to ensure eligibility and student success.
    3. Travel with the team to off-campus collegiate events.
    4. Recruit student athletes by following the program’s recruitment plan.
    5. Maintain statistics as required by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Region.
    6. As directed by the Head Coach, coordinate and assist with all travel arrangements for teams’ member and program coach travel including lodging, meals, and mileage.
    7. Represent the college in a positive manner with prospective, current and former students, employees, officials, and the community.
    8. Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College’s policies, procedures and practices.
    9. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

    Typical Qualifications

    Position Specifications Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    Experience

    • 1-3 years of experience in coaching the sport.

    Licenses/Certifications

    • Valid Driver’s License and be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier. First Aid and CPR certified or ability to be certified within 90 days of hire or prior to the start of the season of the assigned athletic program, whichever comes first.

    Equivalency Statement

    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Desired Qualifications

    • 1-3 years of experience coaching collegiately or as a graduate assistant in the sport.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

    1. Knowledge of CWC policies, procedures and practices.
    2. Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.
    3. Basic Knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations.
    4. Knowledge of the athletic program assigned.
    5. Knowledge and demonstrable ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft applications.
    6. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
    7. Possess strong, effective interpersonal skills.
    8. Possess strong leadership skills.
    9. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, high degree of integrity and high moral and ethical behavior.
    10. Demonstrate a commitment to and involvement with collegiate athletics.
    11. Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
    12. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to effectively identify and resolve problems.
    13. Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both with the college, community, and other athletic programs.
    14. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and supervisors.
    15. Ability to relate to a broad range of students.
    16. Ability to coordinate and supervise student athletes.
    17. Ability to exercise patience and adapt quickly to change.
    18. Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions.
    19. Ability to relate with a diverse population in a professional, helpful manner and be a team player.

    Level of Supervision

    • This position operates under the direct supervision of the Head Coach of the athletic program assigned.

    Working Environment

    • Various sporting goods equipment related to the specific athletic program assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    • Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Regular talking, hearing, and seeing (distinguishing colors) required in the normal course of performance of essential duties. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

    Environmental Conditions

    • Work is primarily performed indoors. Travel, evening and weekend work are required.
