An early morning two-vehicle crash on Thursday, December 26th, between Moneta and Waltman in Natrona County, closed US 20/26 for several hours.
It is reported, 71-year-old Marie Moniz succumbed to her injuries on the scene and two others were taken to Wyoming Medical Center with injuries. No information or updates about their injuries have been shared at this time.
The road conditions were reported as “Ice/Frost, Snow” and Moniz was wearing her seatbelt.
Crash Narrative shared by WHP:
A Chevrolet Silverado 2500 was westbound on US 20-26 at approximately milepost 24 while a GMC Sierra 1500 was eastbound at the same time. The GMC Sierra lost control, failed to maintain its lane of travel, and traveled into the westbound lane. The Chevrolet Silverado attempted to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles collided in a head-on style collision. After the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane against a guardrail blocking the eastbound lane of travel.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was able to exit the vehicle on his own and transported to Wyoming Medical Center via ground ambulance.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was extricated from the vehicle and taken by ground ambulance to Wyoming Medical Center. The passenger of the GMC Sierra succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
Speed too fast for conditions on the GMC Sierra’s part is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
