Draft concealed carry document released by FCSD #1

In 2017, Wyoming Statute 21-3-132 was passed and allowed for Districts to adopt policies related to the possession of firearms on school property by employees who possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Back in early 2018, Lander Schools conducted a survey of students, staff and the community asking the question, “would you support a policy that would allow approved and trained employees to carry a concealed weapon in Fremont #1?

The survey results showed that a majority favored the action.

In an evening post on their Facebook Page, FCSD #1 released an initial draft of policies and regulations for concealed carry on School District property. The draft is available for public viewing on the District website by following the instructions here.

In short, if adopted, it would authorize any employee of FCSD #1 to submit an application for approval to carry on school grounds. In addition to the approval of the application, the employee would be required to submit to the Department of Family Services Central Registry Screening, psychological evaluation, initial training, and recurring training every six months, among other items.
