It’s been 17 years since the 9/11 attacks. For a 16th year, Riverton will host a memorial parade.
Tuesday, September 11th beginning at 8:00 a.m. a parade of community members, law enforcement, and firefighters will depart from the old K-Mart parking lot.
The parade travels south to Sunset, goes Sunset to Broadway, Broadway to Main, Main to Major, Major to Sunset, Sunset to College View, College View to Main, then Main back to the old K-Mart parking lot.
The route’s zigs and zags are to help ensure that it passes by area schools and gives children an opportunity to see it.
Parade organizers say that if you’d like to enter the parade, you’re still welcome to. Dressing vehicles patriotically in red, white, and blue is encouraged.
A float for veterans and active military will also be organized for those that would like to ride.
Last year’s parade included about 30 vehicles. Tony Luoma has helped organize the parade since 2012, after the original organizer Ed Leake passed away.
You can see more details on the parade via their Facebook event page.
