All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheldon Buckingham, 29, of Fremont County, pleaded “not guilty” to the following charges in District Court on October 16th, 2019:
- 1 Count – Aggravated Burglary: felony; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no less than 5 years, and no more than 25 years; a fine of no more than $50,000; or both.
- 2 Counts – Aggravated Assault and Battery: felony; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 10 years.
- 1 Count – Property Destruction and Defacement: felony; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 10 years; a fine of no more than $10,000; or both.
- 1 Count – Interference with Emergency Calls: misdemeanor; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 6 months; a fine of no more than $750; or both.
- 1 Count – Battery: misdemeanor; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 6 months; a fine of no more than $750; or both.
- 2 Counts – Felony Stalking: maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 10 years; a fine of no more than $10,000; or both.

The ‘Order After Arraignment’ signed by Judge Tyler on November 2nd, 2019, states there will be a trial for this case. The trial date is set for March 2020.
Those charges are related to an event on August 9th, 2019, at approximately 10:35 pm. According to court documents, Buckingham kicked in the front door to a residence where a woman identified as his ex and a male were at in Riverton. Buckingham reportedly pointed an “AR-15 rifle” at his ex and threatened her upon entering the residence. A struggle took place between the three of them. No injuries were reported during that struggle. Buckingham left the residence and fired “numerous rounds” at her vehicle outside.
It is reported in court documents, earlier in the evening of August 9th, Buckingham sent several text messages and made several phone calls to his ex. The final text message sent “minutes” before he kicked in the door threatened them both.
Before this event, Buckingham was ordered on August 6th, 2019, “to avoid all contact directly or indirectly” with the male after Buckingham approached him in a public place and “hit him several times” on July 23rd, 2019. The same arraignment hearing ordered all contact with his ex “must be lawful and peaceful.”
